Every month, many of our male members visit Japan to meet their love. Sometimes, we are asked what the best gift for her is when he first meets her in JAPAN.

I am glad to hear about this kind of question since I feel that our male members really care about their dates.

Our male members are making great efforts for building up a long distance relationship, and giving a gift is one way of making a good impression when meeting your date in person.

However, the gift for her at your first meeting should not be an expensive item such as jewelry. Since it is the first meeting for you and her, nobody knows how it will be working out.

You might not feel a good chemistry or she might not feel a good chemistry for you. If you give her an expensive ring her, she might feel unnecessary pressure even though she likes you.

If it will not work out after the meeting, the gift itself would be just a waste for you, and it will become an object of which she remembers an uncomfortable situation.

The gift should be something NOT expensive, preferably costing only $10 to $30.

Also, it is a good idea if the gift does NOT remain forever in case the relationship does not continue.

Therefore, I recommend a small box of chocolates or cookies. That's all!

In Tokyo, people are eagerly waiting to observe the millennium's first annular solar eclipse in the morning at 7:34 am on Mon., May 21st .

People can also see this spectacular astronomical show in parts of the western US coast during the evening on Sun., May 20th.

I wish I could see it in Japan!!!

Here are the places and times when this Solar Eclipse can be observed in the US. But it might not be that clear to observe since it will be evening time.

• Redding, California 5/20 18:28:36（PST）
• Reno Nevada 5/20 18:30:41（PST）
• St. George, Utah 5/20 19:34:22（MDT ）
• Albuquerque, New Mexico 5/20 19:35:49（MDT ）
• Santa Fe, New Mexico 5/20 19:34:56（MDT ）

Some men are waiting for the moment when the moon will appear between the Sun and the earth to say “Will You Marry Me?” to their girlfriends, since the eclipse appears like a marriage ring.

Our Female Members' English Speaking Level is More Excellent than Your Japanese Speaking Level

I was shocked when I had a request from a male member who wanted to meet a Japanese woman with no accent whatsoever. Does such a perfect person exist? Is such perfection really important anyways?

When I was a child in Japan, English education started in the 7^th grade in public school. Recently, in order to increase the Japanese public's English speaking level, English education now starts in the 5^th grade, and it this will likely become even earlier. Some parents are having their children taught English as early as 3 years or younger. Also, the Japanese government and major companies in Japan are constantly encouraging people to learn English.

However, English is NOT Japanese people's first language. So, expecting a Japanese person to speak perfect English would be expecting a lot. If someone asks me if there is a Japanese woman who can speak perfect English without any accent, I would say, “generally NO”, but “There are always exceptions, and many Japanese women are constantly making an effort to learn English.”

If you are seeking a Japanese wife, you need to understand how hard it is for her to think, read, and write in English as a second language. It is helpful for you to be proud of your Japanese wife's big effort to learn English. Remember, your Japanese wife will surely improve her English speaking and writing level the longer she lives in the US. And I am sure if you are a good and patient listener, your marriage life with a Japanese wife will be successful.

By the way, I have been a matchmaker for more than 12 years. I have rarely met men who speak perfect Japanese language. And I have never met any man with no accent when they spoke in Japanese. We Japanese do understand it is very difficult for non-Japanese people to learn Japanese language. All we ask is for the same understanding.

Learning another language helps to increase your communication level and your understanding of other cultures. If you are seeking a Japanese wife, mutual understanding for each other’s language skill and a desire to learn better language skills are most important.
