I am glad to hear about this kind of question since I feel that our male members really care about their dates.

Our male members are making great efforts for building up a long distance relationship, and giving a gift is one way of making a good impression when meeting your date in person.

However, the gift for her at your first meeting should not be an expensive item such as jewelry. Since it is the first meeting for you and her, nobody knows how it will be working out.

You might not feel a good chemistry or she might not feel a good chemistry for you. If you give her an expensive ring her, she might feel unnecessary pressure even though she likes you.

If it will not work out after the meeting, the gift itself would be just a waste for you, and it will become an object of which she remembers an uncomfortable situation.

The gift should be something NOT expensive, preferably costing only $10 to $30.

Also, it is a good idea if the gift does NOT remain forever in case the relationship does not continue.

Therefore, I recommend a small box of chocolates or cookies. That's all!

The most important thing to bring to the first date is your honesty and your heart. If you give anything as a gift, it is an additional affirmation for her that you care about her.

My husband and I went on a date in Tokyo and I would like to share with you what we did. We had a good time and I recommend this date to anyone dating in Tokyo. It was a half day tour which included seeing some nature, modern culture, and old culture in Japan.

1. Hamarikyu Gardenhttp://www.tokyo-park.or.jp/english/park/detail_04.html

This historic park is a quiet refuge and oasis in downtown Tokyo. The park is just a 15 minutes’ walk from Shinbashi station. In this former hunting park you can leave the modern hustle bustle behind and enjoy the beautifully sculpted landforms, duck ponds, and large trees and many other plants. For instance, when we visited in March, the fragrant Ume Plum was starting to bloom and there was a large field of bright yellow Rapeseed flowers blooming. A beautiful sight! There are many romantic strolls you and your date can take, or places to relax in this park.

2. Taking a Boat from Hamarikyu to Asakusa.http://www.suijobus.co.jp/cruise/station/hamariq.html

Conveniently, you can hop on a sightseeing boat directly from the park. We went to Asakusa along the Sumida River passing under many beautiful bridges in every color imaginable. If it is in late March or early April, both sides of the river are filled with pink and white cherry blossoms. It is a spectacular scene!

3. Walking from Asakusa Azumabashi to Sky Tree.

After disembarking from the boat we walk to the gleaming new Sky Tree tower. It was an interesting walk through narrow streets. You may want to stop at the iconic Asahi Beer building (the one with the golden swoosh on top) for free beer along the way. However, we did not know that the tower was not open yet (not until May 22nd) and until July 10th there is a lottery system for acquiring tickets. So, it may not be the best time to visit the tower with lots of people wanting to see and visit it. If you want to skip the Sky Tree, it might be a better idea to walk directly from the Asakusa to the Sensoji Temple.

4. Getting a Train from Sky Tree to Asakusa Sensoji Temple.

The station at the Sky Tree was previously named “Narihirabashi Station”. But it was changed to “Sky Tree Station”. Take the subway to the Asakusa Sensoji Temple station. It is an interesting walk to the “lantern temple”. You will pass through many indoor and outdoor vendors selling all kinds of things from foods to sandals at their stalls. The Sensoji Temple is actually a series of buildings, and there is a Tea House. All are really amazing to behold. Don't forget to take photos of you and your date in front of the big lantern at the Sensoji Temple! Look for the large sandals too! It is beautiful to visit here at dusk since many small lanterns are lit up at nightfall, making it more romantic.

5. Eat around Ueno or Okachimachi Station Area. http://www.japan-hotels.ws/tokyo/ueno/dining.htm

There are variety of restaurants which are generally reasonably price around Ueno and Okachimachi station area. If you google “ueno restaurants” you will find a lot of websites of restaurants. This date tour in Tokyo is good in all seasons for all people since there is something for everyone. This is a half day tour in which you will experience both traditional and modern day Tokyo in a couple of hours. You may also take a sightseeing boat to Odaiba instead of Asakusa to see more contemporary spaces in Tokyo. If you have children, going to Ueno zoo from Asakusa is recommended.

My husband and I enjoyed our walking, boating, and subway date tour in Tokyo. You and your date will too!!!

Hot Dating Tip: Don't Talk About Your Past Relationships to the Woman You are Corresponding with Now

Here is a story from one of our former members that shows how we perhaps unconsciously hold onto
past relationships and how this clinginess to the past can harm present relationships.

“It was right after we had married and I had recently moved into my husband’s house. One day, I opened the kitchen cabinet to make a cup of tea, when suddenly, a bunch of blonde hair fell down onto the kitchen counter. I was so scared because I thought someone may have been killed in this house!

My husband rushed into the kitchen and explained the blond hair to me.

“This is my ex-girlfriend's hair. I have kept it because I think it is beautiful. ”
I am thinking, but why keep the hair in the kitchen cabinet?

OK, I think it may have been beautiful for him, but it was horrible for me.

I calmly said without anger:

“It is important to let go of past experiences, and so I am asking you to let go of this hair. Please throw it out in the garbage, and please do not tell me about your past beautiful memories since I am a woman who lives with you now in the present moment.” Luckily, he understood what I told him and we have not discussed about each one's past since then.”

I am not denying his past fantastic relationships. But, I feel a good rule is to not talk about past relationships. Why? Because it is not necessary for our new married life since I am feeling happy with him now and I don’t want the past to interfere with the present.”

While this story from a former member may seem funny to some, it offers a valuable lesson. And the spouse handled the situation with her husband in a positive manner leading to stronger trust in their relationship.

Through my more than 10 years matchmaking experience, I have seen how many people tend to hold onto the memories of their past relationships. And, during early correspondence with a new date, they ask their date's past relationships. Why? Do they want to compare the person they are with now to their previous dates? Are they looking for someone who is similar or different? Do they expect him/her to be like a person they used to love? This is a fool’s idea since everyone is different and trying to recreate the past will only lead to heartache.

If you are asked about your past relationships do you feel happy? Are the conversations really exciting?

I believe it is best to say “I don’t dwell in the past. I don’t cling to the past. It is best to forget your past relationships!” Past is past. We cannot change the past. Now is now and we have the power to choose what we want to do now in the present. So, forget the past and spend your finite energy on creating a beautiful life with your current partner. Now can be the best time ever and don’t let the past mess it up.

If you really want to start a new life with someone special, it is better to focus on the person who you are dating now, who is in front of you! Pay all your attention to the person you are with now! Enjoy each moment you spend with the person you love now for soon the moment will be in the past.
