What is the reason that MJL male members come and visit Japan to meet female members?

Here is our answer.

As is stated in MJL’s Full Membership Requirements, “Male members must come to Japan to meet female member(s) when they feel chemistry after communicating a couple of months.”

男性がメンバーシップにサインする際に
“よいご縁があれば日本に来る”
ということが、条件のひとつになっているからです。


This requirement means that as our Full Member, we do not accept male clients who say that:
I don’t want to visit Japan to meet Japanese women!
I don’t want to pay for the travel expense!
Women should come to meet me first!
It is not necessary!

言い換えると
ワザワザ日本には行きたくないよ！
渡航費用がばかばかしい！
女性がこっちに来ればいいじゃないか！
日本に行く必要などない！
と、おっしゃる男性は
基本的にメンバーにはしていないのです。


Fortunately, most of our male members take it for granted that they will visit Japan since they are sincerely looking for a “marriage partner”. Many of them visit Japan several times since they love Japan and Japanese culture.

来日は当然であると考えます。


The first meeting may be a gamble for all members since there is no guarantee of success. However, women may feel inclined to use this first meeting as a test to see if men will take the initiative in traveling to Japan. We believe that women will be happier if they marry responsible men than men who expect her to take the initiative.

If we find that one of our male members does not visit Japan to meet his candidates within six months since they started communicating by email, we will discuss with him to make sure that he is really serious about his membership. Depending on how the male member responds to our inquiry, MJL will decide whether to remove his membership.

So, we have decided to implement a new rule called “Two Weeks Reply Rule” for all members. 

Here is how it works. If we haven’t received a reply from a member within two weeks, your status will be changed to an “inactive” member, and your profile will be turned off until you contact us. It means that you will not be able to browse our members’ detailed profiles nor communicate with them. However, we are still open to you whenever you have time to talk with us.

Also, if our male members do not reply to a contact request from one of our female members within two weeks, we will automatically send a “decline” reply to her. In addition, your account will be changed to an “inactive” member until you contact us.

We believe that this new “Two Weeks Reply Rule” will create clear communication and fairness for all of our members.

We believe that being responsible is a most important quality in creating a harmonious relationship.

Romance Scammers

Do you know about the phrase “Romance Scammer”?
They sneak around online dating sites pretending to be a person who is looking for a partner. However, their purpose is not to find sincere love, rather they are looking for money and/or sex. They use somebody else’s photos, and their profiles are all fake.
We have many applications from male members all over the world every day. Unfortunately, some of the applicants are detected as romance scammers. We at MJL place a high priority of having high standards for our members in order to provide our members with a top quality experience with the best results, and to keep everyone safe.

In order to protect our clients, we screen each applicant carefully. This is why some people say that MJL's qualifications are too strict or the documents that MJL requires are too personal. However, we believe that screening our male clients by requiring certain documents is the best way to ascertain who the qualified applicants are and who are not since all transactions are done through the internet.

Fortunately, we have never had any major issues with false identities of our members since we started our matchmaking company in 1999. I think it is because of our unique system where we require male members to visit Japan to meet our female clients for their first meeting. Male members have to spend a lot of time and money for one visit. And usually, one of our staff members attends the meeting. For romance scammers, becoming a member of MJL does not make sense for them since the costs and time involved are too high. 

On the other hand, we require all our female members to visit our Tokyo office before signing up for Full Membership. They come to our office in Tokyo even though they may live as far away as Okinawa or Hokkaido and they have an interview with our staff, and sometimes their conversations last for more than 3 hours! Romance scammers would not make this much effort or take this much risk to visit our office and meet with our staff. Up to this time, we have never had a female applicant romance scammer!

We have heard from some of our male clients of how they were victims of international dating and marriage fraud in other Asian countries when using other dating websites or marriage agencies.

If you google “romance scammer”, you will see examples of these scams. 
One important lesson to keep in mind in order to avoid being scammed is to never send someone money if you have never met them in person. Some people may feel that he or she truly knows or trusts someone after corresponding with him or her through the internet over a long period of time, but you will only really know a person when you actually meet him or her in person.

I hope all people who are looking for their ideal partners are careful for their safety.

Typical relationship counselors may not have experience in dealing with international relationships. And, asking your friends or parents does not make sense as they are not trained to deal with International relationship issues.

Talking with our experienced counselors really helps. Many of our female members have given us positive feedback about their experience with our Premarriage Counseling service they received. We are able to solve any issues and give them the tools to creating a committed, positive, happy, and fulfilling relationship with their partner.

Japanese Women are Afraid of Free Online Dating, and They are Looking for Safer Sites

Many of our new Japanese female members have visited our office stating how they became very frightened about online dating after hearing about this news story. Have you heard about the murder of a Japanese woman in San Diego in 2007? Her dead body was found in a desert outside San Diego, and her husband was investigated as a suspect. They met through a free dating website. According to the news report, he was still a member of a free dating website after his wife’s death.

I do not want to alarm you, but I want you to be careful and take precautions with online dating since there are inherent risks. Men can also be a victim.

This other piece of news from Tokyo shocked many Japanese people. A Japanese woman killed three men whom she met through the internet.

Is Free Online Dating Safe?
MJL requires all applicants to our service to pay a membership fee in order to become a full member. There is a very important distinction between a paid relationship service and a free dating website. With a free dating website, anybody can apply, and there is a higher likelihood that people with lower character or questionable motives will join since there are no membership requirements and no screening. If you are a member of a free online dating site, you have to be very careful about the people who ask you on a date because he/she might have hidden reasons for dating, like money, sex, or something else.

However, when it is a paid relationship service, such as MJL, only clients who have a strong commitment to a happy marriage may apply. All of MJL’s members have met our membership requirements and have been screened. So, with MJL, you can rest assured that you are meeting people who meet a higher standard of quality.

Zappos: Tony Hsieh's Method of Delivering Happiness

 I have just finished reading the book, “Delivering Happiness”.

The author is Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos.

I was inspired by his method of Delivering Happiness.

He believes that all people who relate to Zappos, such as customers, employees, wholesalers, and others should be happy, and therefore, he has trained everyone at his company to treat everyone nice and with respect in order to create happiness. As a result, Zappos succeeded. And everyone that intereacts with the company feels happy when dealing with them. This company’s concept is very simple, has been very successful, and is a fundamental law of the universe.

In Japan, there are more than 20,000 companies which have existed for more than 100 years. More than 600 companies have existed for 300 years, and about 40 companies that have existed for 500 years. Amazingly, there is a company in Japan which has existed for over 800 years.

I think many companies in Japan follow similar methods to Zapposs Delivering Happiness, and following a positive company culture really helps companies to thrive for many years.

I remember about my grandfather who established his own company. He always appreciated his company's employees and he tried to make a strong team. His company survived an economic depression without anyone on his team being laid off. My father ran the company, and now my brother continues in managing the company.

I believe that my grandfather used a similar method as Tony Hsieh’s. And I hope I inherited the method of “Delivering Happiness” from my grandfather and father.

As CEO of my company, I would like to make a strong team like Zappos has done in order to provide the best service for MJL's clients. By creating a culture of happiness inside our company, MJL, the happiness will spread to everyone our company deals with too, especially our clients. In this way, we will create our happiness network. Positive thinking through happiness will spread everywhere! We want everyone to be happy!

Power is Back!

Our  Power is Back!

Thank you BGE for restoring our electricity!

As many of you may have heard, a major, hurricane like thunderstorn ripped through many states on the east coast, including our state of Maryland, causing many trees to fall and the subsequent power outages as a result. This intense storm was not in the weather forecast, so it was a complete shock for us. After two days of no power, we decided that we might as well get out of town where it might be better and we would at least be more comfortable. So, we decided to drive to West Virginia to visit the towns of Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown for three days.

We saw some really beautiful places.

Unfortunately, parts of West Virginia also had blackouts because of the big storm.

Fortunately, we had a peaceful time there.

We came back from a place of refuge.

The meetings which were setup for one of our male members who is visiting Japan currently occurred without any problem and we will have another male member visiting later this week. Everything goes well. Thank you to our staff, Team MJL!

5th Anniversary of Our Marriage

This is a private matter, but I would like to share with you that today is my five year marriage anniversary.
I am so happy to have such a great day!

I started MJL over 10 years ago because I was single, and I had been looking for my true love. I realized that my husband to be was outside of JAPAN, and when I was 36 years old, I left Japan. It was in 2004. I studied English in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. While studying, I was developing my Matchmaking business, and introducing many beautiful Japanese women to gentlemen in the US, Canada, UK, and other countries. I had been taking care of many male and female clients, but I was still single. I dated some guys, but unfortunately, I didn’t feel their objective was “MARRIAGE”. I focused on “MARRIAGE” since that was what I was looking for!

I met my future husband by accident in 2006. He was one of my male clients’ renters. How long did we correspond with each other until we got married? Our courtship did not take too long since we both had the same commitment toward marriage. He was also looking for a wife, not a girlfriend. Up to that time, he had been trying many internet dating sites, with very little results. He was looking for real love, and I was too. When we met each other we naturally fell in love. We were a great match! And I am so happy that we found each other! My life is filled with tremendous joy now!!!

We were married 5 years ago. We have a child who is 2 and a half years old. My husband sometimes helps my business, and I help his business, too. Through my marriage experience, I have learned a lot about relationships, which has helped my career as a Matchmaker for western men and Japanese women. And around us, there are many happy couples who met their spouse through MJL’s matchmaking service. I established MJL as a US based company which is called Kaiwa-USA LLC. Establishing a company in the US was one of my dreams, and I am proud of making it come true. I appreciate all my husbands’ support.

My next objective in the next 5 years is creating a strong network to support couples (Japanese wives and western husbands) in the US. Also, I would like to further develop my matchmaking service for western men and Japanese women.

I have been very happy with my husband. If I am happy from the beginning of today to the end of today, that is great. If the next day is same as today, it is fantastic! I am happy every day! I will be happy next year and for the next 10 years. I hope our happiness lasts forever!

The former office was located on the 7th floor of the building. During the earthquake, my business partner, Miyata, was very scared as he was in the Tokyo office at the time. The new office is located on the first floor, so it is a lot safer and easier to access. The new office is a traditional Japanese house, so it is very interesting to visit and has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.
All of the first meetings with our ladies take place at our Tokyo office. We are always happy to have you as a guest at our Tokyo office by appointment.
