MJL’s Speed Dating Event in Singapore on Dec 7th and 8th: Successfully Completed with Total Number of 92 Attendees on Both Days!

Our first Speed Dating Event in Singapore was held on Dec 7th and 8th. The first day, we had about 50 attendees. Men and women sat face to face and talked to each other for 5 minutes and then switched to the next seat after that. 5 minutes sessions with 25 people equals more than 120 total minutes where all attendees were talking. It was a bit hard but it was fun!

There were some break times for snacks and mingle time. They exchanged their business cards freely and we were told that some of the attendees started corresponding individually.


















The second day, we had a lunch meeting at One on the Bay, a Chinese restaurant which is located on the other shore of the Marina Bay Sands.



















Most of the attendees live in Singapore; some are from Japan, Philippines, Bangkok, Vietnam, and Jakarta. We had some inquiries about the event from China, Korea, and other Asian countries.

A journalist from KYODO NEWS came and collected materials as it was the first speed dating in Singapore in the Japanese society.

Japanese Women Want to Experience Nature

My son and I went to an apple picking picnic as an outdoor activity for his Japanese class.

We drove for 30 minutes from downtown Baltimore and saw peaceful farm landscapes all around us. Since I had lived in central Tokyo, seeing the countryside is a great experience for me.

If your Japanese girlfriend says, “I enjoy a relaxing lifestyle,” you and she may feel happy to live here together. However, most Japanese women may feel a culture shock upon arriving in the US since living in Japan is extremely developed, super convenient with buildings and stores everywhere, and most people live in cities in Japan.

As a matchmaker, I always tell our female members not to expect the same lifestyle that they have now in Tokyo. I tell them to be openminded about their new upcoming life in America and to be ready to create a new sense of value.

If Japanese women have flexibility and can enjoy the differences between the American lifestyle and the Japanese lifestyle, their life is going to be abundant.

If your Japanese girlfriend has not yet experienced wild nature which urban cities don’t have, it would be nice for you and her to explore the outdoors together.

My son and I enjoyed a wonderful Fall day at the apple farm in rural Maryland where we felt the warm sunshine and saw the pastoral scenes.

Our Female Members' English Speaking Level is More Excellent than Your Japanese Speaking Level

I was shocked when I had a request from a male member who wanted to meet a Japanese woman with no accent whatsoever. Does such a perfect person exist? Is such perfection really important anyways?

When I was a child in Japan, English education started in the 7^th grade in public school. Recently, in order to increase the Japanese public's English speaking level, English education now starts in the 5^th grade, and it this will likely become even earlier. Some parents are having their children taught English as early as 3 years or younger. Also, the Japanese government and major companies in Japan are constantly encouraging people to learn English.

However, English is NOT Japanese people's first language. So, expecting a Japanese person to speak perfect English would be expecting a lot. If someone asks me if there is a Japanese woman who can speak perfect English without any accent, I would say, “generally NO”, but “There are always exceptions, and many Japanese women are constantly making an effort to learn English.”

If you are seeking a Japanese wife, you need to understand how hard it is for her to think, read, and write in English as a second language. It is helpful for you to be proud of your Japanese wife's big effort to learn English. Remember, your Japanese wife will surely improve her English speaking and writing level the longer she lives in the US. And I am sure if you are a good and patient listener, your marriage life with a Japanese wife will be successful.

By the way, I have been a matchmaker for more than 12 years. I have rarely met men who speak perfect Japanese language. And I have never met any man with no accent when they spoke in Japanese. We Japanese do understand it is very difficult for non-Japanese people to learn Japanese language. All we ask is for the same understanding.

Learning another language helps to increase your communication level and your understanding of other cultures. If you are seeking a Japanese wife, mutual understanding for each other’s language skill and a desire to learn better language skills are most important.
