Long and Black Hair

“Why do you wish to meet a Japanese lady?”

I usually ask men who want to meet Japanese ladies.
Most of them answer that they like Japanese ladies
because Japanese ladies have long and black hair which is beautiful.
I think most American men’s image of Japanese ladies is very traditional.
They might dream Yoko Ono or a princess in Heian period (794 to 1185)

Yes, we all have black hair originally, but Japanese ladies try to have their hair dyed in Brown or light brown. Some ladies even dye their hair blonde or have their hair dread locked which some consider cool and stylish! When I was in University in Tokyo, not many girlfriends around me have long and black hair. It is sarcasm, but Japanese ladies dream Western culture.

Men I met in the US always told me not to have my hair cut short.So does my husband.

Why?

My husband says,
“Long and black hair is beautiful.”

“OK, I keep my hair long”
How devoted Japanese wife is!

Since I do not want to break American men’s dream, I obey their opinion.I advise our female members to keep their black hair long and never have it dyed.

By the way, I am a little concerned about several white hairs I have in my hair.Should I dye them black?

Happy Valentine!

Did you have a nice time on Valentine’s Day?In Japan, the Valentine’s Day is the day for men. It is the day when women show men their feelings with chocolate.

Women go shopping to buy gifts, and usually they buy chocolate for Valentine’s Day. I don’t know who decided this practice, but men are just waiting to be given chocolate. How many chocolate you have received is important for men. Every year, it is reported how many trucks of chocolate and gifts young pop musicians or movie stars have gotten from their female fans, and it is a kind of the status symbol rating their popularity. It also means that it is a lonely day for single men without any girlfriends.

While at work, ladies are supposed to deliver chocolate as a ritual. This is important for ladies to keep their position in their office. Usually, this kind of chocolate is cheap which is about 300 yen to 500 yen. Although it is cheap, it is better than nothing. Because of just cheap ritual chocolate make the atmosphere in the office harmonious. If you got expensive chocolate from your co worker, she must like you. To be liked from your co worker or not depends on the price of the chocolate you have gotten.

In Japan, there is White Day one month after the Valentine’s Day. (March 14th) This is the day for women. Men who have received chocolate on Valentine’s Day are supposed to give women gifts in return. Usually, it is supposed to be more expensive than the chocolate women gave. So, many men go to look for the “equid pro quo gifts” in the Louis Vuitton shops, Chanel shops, and other jewelry shops before the White Day. Those events are tricky and well-organized scheme for both women and the shops.
I was tired of taking part in such kind of commercialized and superficial annual rituals.

I was glad to learn that Valentine’s Day in the US is practiced differently than in Japan. It is for both men and women in the US. Is it true?My husband and I don’t believe in following rituals, so we didn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. It was just anther day, but everyday is special for us.Especially, we are together everyday, and I am happy with him.

Fresh Start

I haven’t written My Blog for a long time.

Let me excuse why I couldn’t write. It is because of the following reasons.

1) It takes so much time to complete one article with my Japanese English.
2) Then, my friends or husband have to become a victim for helping to correct my strange sentences. I appreciate it, but they look exhausted.
3) And then, I revise it again and again with English-Japanese and Japanese-English dictionary.

It takes tame a lot. As most of Japanese do, I pursue the way of perfect writing. Because of that I got tired of trying to write my Blog recently.

But I understood that it was NOT a good idea to learn Language when I met Anjero.

Last week, I met Anjero at the Japanese Culture Meet Up in Baltimore. http://japanese.meetup.com/444/
He is originally Brazilian, but he can speak English and Japanese. Both English and Japanese are not primary language for him, but he speaks fluently. Of course his Japanese is not perfect, but excellent. I understood what he said in Japanese because I felt his passion and soul in his words. He taught everyone Japanese songs, which I don’t know, and it was great! I appreciate to know there are people who learn Japanese and Japanese culture in the US.

Meeting with Anjero encouraged me to start my BLOG again.
Thank you very much.
I will try without shame of making mistakes.
I learned that it is not necessary to be perfect.
So, I just try to write in English with my joy and passion.
